„Spinning My Mind“ is the third single from ‘Point’ after „Out of Sight“ und „Waba Duba“. Video and single will be out on Aug. 28, 2020, together with the album.

“From Meier and Blank’s glimmering newie ‘Point’, luxurious synth-tryst intrigue in Europa. Feel the quality!” wrote UK music mag MOJO.

New Single „Out of Sight“

A song about pining, flirting, dancing - and losing, all in the space of three minutes. It’s smart, it’s clever, it’s funny, and it’s a killer dancefloor tune. Typical Yello, in other words. The list of ingredients that have gone into the making of the duo’s latest single are an irresistibly bouncy beat, a cheeky “ciao bella” from Boris Blank’s very own sweetheart, a fizzing cocktail of percussive bubbles, and, of course, Dieter Meier’s laconic pronouncements on subjects as diverse as love, life, left and right.

On a practical level, one of the main building blocks of “Out of Sight” is a sound module by the name of “Blank Paty Care”, to be found on an iPhone app called Yellofier. This charming little tool was developed a few years ago by Boris Blank, together with Jonatan Liljedahl and Håkan Lidbo. Boris and his friends are working on an update as we type. Music making as easy as dialling a number on the mobile - any child can do it. Which in the world of Boris and Dieter, eternal children as they are, will be seen as high praise indeed.

„Out of Sight“ is the second single after „Waba Duba“ from the new Yello album, „Point“, released on August 28, 2020.

A YELLO album is like a magical mystery tour. We may know where the journey starts but we have no idea where it will end. Their latest, “POINT”, is no different.

Dieter Meier and Boris Blank could have sprung from the drawing board of Tin Tin-inventor Hergé. One, madcap sound professor Blank, dreams up a ceaseless stream of music which plunges the other, globetrotting gentleman adventurer Meier, into a frenzy of Dadaist story-telling. One, Blank, is happiest alone in the studio with his music. The other, Meier, is a citizen of the world who rarely stands still long enough to say hello to his shadow. Meier and Blank have made music together for forty years. In all this time they have not grown a day older or – heaven forbid! – a jot more sensible.

„POINT“ was created in exactly the same way as the previous thirteen YELLO albums and hits like “Oh Yeah”, “The Race“ or “The Rhythm Divine“. „I like to compare our music with paintings“, says Blank. “I constantly paint new sound worlds in the studio.” Drawing from a library of countless beats, melody fragments and instrumental parts, Blank arranges and rearranges these in ever subtler combinations. “Once I have collected sixty or seventy new tracks, I ask myself: which of these should we send to the exhibition? Which of these would go nicely together on an album?”

“When Boris is immersed in his music, he is like a kid in the sandpit,” reports Meier affectionately. “I’ve developed a dozen tricks to enter the studio without making him jump out of his skin.” Once a selection of tracks is made, Meier settles down with his ancient Hermes “Baby” typewriter and begins to rattle out an associative flow of words. “The typewriter is an erotic tool”, he says. “It is the act of typing that pulls me into the life of the song.”

Their last album, “Toy”, sounded unusually “cosmic”. Now, YELLO have returned to earth. The joyous swing and nonsensical wit of “Waba Duba” sets the tone and, like “Peter Strong”, carries an echo of the early days of “You Gotta Say Yes to Another Excess”. “Arthur Spark“ performs the typically Yello-esque circus trick of blending absurd words with irresistible dance beats and a feeling of wistful longing. “Big Boy’s Blues“ is a mutant blues with Meier in Leonard Cohen-mood. “Hot Pan“ evokes, and subverts, old Spaghetti Western memories. “Rush for Joe“ serves up a glorious trombone solo. Finally, there is the eerily beautiful “Siren Singing” which, according to Chinese guest singer Fifi Rong, is about “unconditional love to ease the suffering of mankind”. YELLO ideas, like sparks, fly off in all directions. And yet, they are all unmistakably part of the same painting.

“POINT” will be released on August 28 and can be pre-ordered on June 19.Single and Video “WABA DUBA” will be released on June 19.

TOY to be released on September 30 2016, is the 13th studio album by YELLO and is a return to form for the Godfathers of Electro-Pop. With 14 new songs, YELLO take up the sound of the legendary albums with which they revolutionized electronic music in the early eighties – with Dadaist collages, Latin American rhythms and the brilliant sampling techniques of Boris Blank.

A surprising twist in the tale of electro-pop pioneers Boris Blank and Dieter Meier! 38 years after founding the band in Zurich, on the 26th and 28th of October 2016, at Kraftwerk Berlin, YELLO will perform their music and especially their world hits – from “The Race” to “Oh Yeah” to “Bostich” – for the first time ever live on stage (TRAILER). Expectations could not be any higher for the Godfathers of Electro-Pop and cross-generational pioneers of the musical world-language of our time: for their “Live in Berlin” shows, Dieter Meier and Boris Blank have announced an audiovisual tour de force through more than 20 songs from an oeuvre that is rich with highlights. Above all, YELLO’s legendary sound wizard Boris Blank has accepted the challenge to create a balance between sophisticated live action and a sonically perfect musical mis-en-scène for the live performance. In addition to the original duo of Dieter Meier and Boris Blank, the guest singers Malia and Fifi Rong as well as instrumentalists from YELLO’s new album TOY will also play an important onstage role. Tickets for both shows are AVAILABLE NOW for advance purchase.

ECHO lifetime award

YELLO to receive ECHO lifetime achievement award.

The German Phono Academy honors the Swiss duo as one of the world’s most influential formations of electronic pop music. Their unique combination of music and video has a lasting influence on the genre.

As pioneers of sampling technique and creators of unusual rhythmic structures, they inspired artists of different genres from hip-hop and funk to electro-pop and techno.

The two band members Dieter Meier and Boris Blank will personally receive the ECHO award on March 27 at the award show at the Messe Berlin.
Germany’s first TV program ARD will broadcast the ceremony with hostess Helene Fischer on March 27 live from 20:15 clock onwards.

“Since four decades, YELLO belong to the great innovators of pop,” says Prof. Dieter Gorny, Chairman of the Federal Association of Music Industry. “As bold pioneers of multimedia concepts, Dieter Meier and Boris Blank have merged electronic music and Dada influenced video art in an almost kaleidoscopic manner and have stylized themselves, if nothing else, as mysterious art figures.

In YELLO’s concept, the unconditional love of experimentation of the avant-garde meets the downright Dionysian drive of electronic dance music and thereby creates a lasting innovative and highly individual pop-cultural context.

Lots of humor, an impressive amount of self-irony and the masterfully expressed lightness of pop in each track lend Yello, with all the subtleness and technical perfection, the character of an entertaining Gesamtkunstwerk which makes, above all, a lot of fun .”
